Southern Belle Restaurant - (919) 658-4295

On a scale of 1-10, I will have to say that I give the Southern Belle a 11.00 The proprietor, Miss Gaynelle, is a local legend. The restaurant looks exactly like it did in the early 70's. Nothing has changed - at all - and that includes the prices. Miss Gaynelle told me she will not improve the building because if anything happens to her, the owner will just bulldoze the place, so why waste the money. But she does not lack ANY business. The Southern Belle is a local icon. If you want value, to see the locals, and rural, eastern NC for what it really is, then this is the place - no pretensions, fancy ferns and brass, and California portions, just plain old southern charm, food and hospitality.

I would recommend this restaurant to everybody that passes through this small town. The food was phenomenal. Reminded me of my grandmother's cooking.

The owner is a great lady and it is a family business. It is great to go visit them but I would not recommend eating there. The food is pretty good but the place is old and not to clean.
